Help United Way's Census outreach team ensure historically under-counted communities have time to respond to the Census by asking your Member of Congress to take action.
Census data determines distribution of over $675 billion a year of our tax dollars to states and communities for schools, roads, medical care, welfare, school lunches, food stamps, college grant money, and lots of other programs for folks in need. When people aren't counted, their needs aren't funded.
The Census Bureau delayed field outreach from March to June due to the pandemic, so extending their fall deadline to October 31st is important for gathering comparable responses to prior years. Now Congress is refusing to honor the Census Bureau's requested extension, forcing them to cut the count short by one month. This will skew the results toward white, affluent, and educated respondents, leaving critical social needs unfunded.
Please join us in asking Congress to use their oversight powers to allow the Census Bureau to continue to reach-out to non-respondents through the end of October.
